Portland's 5 Best Florists

February 13, 2013
Valentine’s Day is tomorrow – do you have anything picked out for your significant other yet? No? Tsk tsk. Not to worry - we’re firm believers in the power of a romantic Valentine’s Day flower bouquet. And because we’re spoiled Portlanders we have a plethora of wonderful locally owned florists to choose from. Here are five of our favorites. Enjoy!

Sammy’s Flowers

If you’re looking for stunning arrangements of locally grown, seasonal flowers, look no further than Sammy’s. The team at Sammy’s Flowers gets it right every dang time, so it’s no wonder that they get such rave write-ups in such local publications as Portland Monthly, Willamette Week, and Eat. Shop. Portland. They purchase new flowers daily from local farmers and proudly bill themselves as a “same day” florist. In addition to their extensive collection of flowers, Sammy’s also offers modern and vintage glassware and ceramics, outdoor plants, gifts, and cards.

Orchid Exchange

Does the idea of another bouquet of plain-jane red roses make you and your significant other cringe? Then head over to Orchid Exchange, Portland’s premiere orchid store. Orchid Exchange (also known as O|X) specializes in blooming orchid plants, cut orchid sprays, and…well, that’s about it. But what they lack in selection they make up for in quality and style. The company was founded on four basic principles: exchange (you can return an already-bloomed O|X orchid for 15% credit on a new one), longevity (blooming orchids last much longer than a bouquet of cut flowers), simplicity (the shop isn’t cluttered with tacky knick-knacks like some florists), and elegance (have you SEEN orchids? They’re freakin’ gorgeous.).

Jennie Greene Designs

Unlike most Portland florists, Jennie Greene’s background isn’t in floral design – it’s in sculpture. This experience is evident in every one of Jennie’s “floral sculptures”, arrangements that combine traditional flower options with stunning handcrafted forms to create completely unique bouquet experiences.

Old Town Florist

OTF is an old standard in the Portland florist community. They’ve been providing high-quality, affordable floral bouquets to the Portland area for over twenty years and are regularly featured in Portland Monthly’s Best of the City issues. They offer same-day deliveries on orders received by 1 PM and have a very wide delivery zone. Not sure what kind of arrangement to get? Don’t worry – their design team is great at helping you pick just the right bouquet.

The Flower Shop

This family-owned and operated florist has been offering beautiful floral designs to the Portland area for over 25 years and they’re still going strong. Located in the SE Woodstock neighborhood, The Flower Shop features hand-designed arrangements for any occasion with an emphasis on quality and affordability. They recently teamed up with Worn & Refind Jewelry to offer an eclectic assortment of fine fashion jewelry and furniture in addition to their floral arrangements.
